OLUG, the Oberlin Linux Users Group, is a collective of people who have joined together to help each other delve into the depths of all things Linux-y. We exist to raise awareness and to promote the use of various alternative operating systems. If you have questions about Linux, *BSD, or even the underbelly of Mac OS X we would be happy to answer them, or point you to someone who can. Our office/server room is in Wilder 328 and you can contact us by clicking the link on the left.
OLUG meetings for the Fall 2008 semester will be at some time to be determined. Each week, we hope to have a short presentation on something Linux-y, as well as group discussions of cool, new, and useful information. We will also try to have some sort of refreshments at the meetings. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage newcomers to join in and learn what Linux is all about.
We have started the formation of a repository for downloading Linux ISO images from on campus. This means that you will be able to download a Linux image much more quickly than if you had to download it from off-campus, because the transfer will go at the speed of the internal network. We currently only have a limited selection at this point (Arch, Debian, Gentoo, Mandriva, and Ubuntu), but are definitely open to suggestions for other interesting distros. Send us an email by using the Contact Us link to the left, and let us know what we should add!
If you are using a Debian-based distro, we may be mirroring an apt repository for you. Instructions are now here! Go to the tutorials page to find a link to them.
Wikis declared no longer useful! Huzzah for useful websites. If you have something that you want to add to this page, please contact us (by clicking the "Contact Us" link to the left) and let us know what it is. We'll probably put it up.
